I'm pretty sure when I was 9, $15 was enough for 4 Good Humor ice cream cones.
Well my friends, I can assure you this is no longer the case!
Relaxing after a great day at the beach and pool.
The girls hear the blaring music of the Monster Cone ice cream truck. Woohoo!
I decide on an Italian ice.
Lemon please... This is going to taste sooooo good!!
The girls were on a mission with $15 in hand.
A few minutes pass and I see the girls heading back toward me. But, I only see 3 ice cream cones.
I'm embarrassed to admit that my first thought was,
Do I always have to get the short end of the stick just because I'm the mom?
I always share, trade, give away anything I have. If my children think mine looks better than theirs, I give them mine.
This night I really just wanted an Italian ice. (Insert whine)>
I asked "What happened?" "Why only 3?"
The response I received left me speechless.
"We didn't have enough money for 4 mom,
So I got your Italian ice but didn't have enough money for myself."
I don't think I could have hugged her any tighter or kissed her any harder.
Well, I probably could have but she would have gotten annoyed with me at some point. :)
My heart felt as if it had swelled with complete joy.
Not only because she had thought of me and was willing to do without.
But, also because at that very moment,
I knew that she would grow to be a kind and considerate young woman.
(Oh and don't worry. We ran back for more money and she got a delicious chocolate milk shake!)
